• Home on Wheels

My dream “home” is not a home in the traditional sense, though the full-time RV lifestyle is gaining popularity. I have always loved camping, traveling, and being in nature. Living in an RV fits the bill for all of these things. There is nothing I would love more than to sell most of my belongings…

  • Practice More Gratitude

What do you complain about the most? Wow this prompt hit me hard. It made me realize just how much I actually complain – some days about every damned thing. This was an excellent reality check for me and I’m going to practice more mindful gratitude and try to retrain my brain. If a negative…

  • Living a very long life could be good OR bad. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have a long life and experience a lot of things, however if you are ailing and aren’t able to enjoy that long life, then what’s the point? Right? Every day should be lived to the fullest and each moment…

  • Hiking

What are your favorite physical activities or exercises? My favorite physical activity is hiking. Theres just something about being outdoors and seeing views that makes the “exercise” seem like it isn’t a chore. Hiking can be incredibly challenging for me due to my physical limitations, but I do my best not to let these limitations…

  • So, yeah, I have been a bit MIA lately. As some of you know, I moved over 800 miles back to New England about a month ago after a brief, 2-year stint in North Carolina. We are now in Manchester, New Hampshire. Before we moved to NC, we lived in Massachusetts. We have had a…

  • Beach With a Mountain View

Why choose when you can have both? Our favorite beach in the lakes and mountain region of New Hampshire is Ellacoya State Park in Gilford. It is on Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire’s largest lake at over 21 miles long. For a nominal fee, you can park all day. There is a playground for the kids,…

  • Penny for your thoughts…

When I first heard a few months back that the U.S. Government was no longer going to make the penny I was like, okay, cool but are stores going to change their pricing structures to only have prices ending in 5’s or 0’s? So far, I haven’t seen any changes – everything still ends in…

  • The Library

This was a tough question as I have only been living in my current city for a little over 2 weeks now, but of course I have already been to the Manchester City Public Library. I love everything about libraries. The first thing I noticed upon arriving at the library was the beautiful architecture of…

  • You Like It Darker

    You Like It Darker

What book are you reading right now? Stephen King, to me, is a master storyteller. I have been reading him since I was 10 and for the sake of full disclosure, that was 36 years ago. I’m currently reading his short story collection entitled “You Like It Darker.” I have only 3 stories left in…

Growing up, I was skinny and tall like a beanpole. It wasn’t until I turned 17 or so and went on the depo provera shot that made me gain about 50 pounds – and fast! Since then, I have struggled with yoyo weight loss.

At 17 I was 105, then 155 after the shot. For the next 4 years I would go up and down about 25-30 pounds, give or take a few. I got pregnant at 22 and I was 177 (Damn, wish I was that now!! LOL). I gained 57 pounds with the pregnancy, but lost all but 10 pounds fairly quickly. Until I turned 30, I fluctuated between 185-220 pounds. At that time, I went through a rough divorce and lost 25 pounds and hovered around 160-170.

I gained all that back and then some, clear up to 250. I again had a rough life situation, lost 20 pounds down to 230 and got a job working at Wendy’s. In the 3 years I worked there I lost almost 80 pounds from my 10-12 hour active days and not eating enough during the course of the day. As a GM at Wendy’s you have no time to eat!

Then, I hurt my back. I ended up leaving the job because I couldn’t handle it physically anymore. I moved in with my now-fiancée and her two boys and you know what they say about love making you fat and happy? Yeah that happened LOL. Also, as I aged, the weight was harder to come off and I started going through perimenopause. I ballooned up to 280 pounds. I couldn’t stand looking at myself in mirrors and in pictures.

In January of this year, I got my shit together and went to see a doctor for the first time in, oh, about 12 years. Needless to say, I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Talk about wake up call. My doctor told me if I didn’t change my habits I was headed straight for a heart attack and/or a stroke. This is the beginning of my current weight loss journey, so please come along and we can all support each other!
